Vancouver International Airport (YVR) welcomed the announcement from the Government of Canada in February, which confirmed new federal funding under Natural Resource Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) for essential infrastructure at the airport.
Infrastructure for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations is a key priority in YVR’s Roadmap to Net Zero 2030. This funding will further enable the airport to achieve its emissions-reduction targets.
The federal funding and funding from the Government of BC’s CleanBC Go Electric program support installing up to 74 additional EV charging outlets across Sea Island over the next three years. It is also vital to the airport’s role as a Gateway to the New Economy.
The airport’s EV charging initiative is among 26 projects receiving $19 million under ZEVIP, which assists organizations as they adapt to the Government of Canada’s mandatory target for all new light-duty cars and passenger trucks to be zero-emission by 2035.
The new EV charging stations, planned to be installed by 2025, will provide electricity to vehicles in the YVR fleet, commercial and business partners’ vehicles, passengers, and the public.
Currently, YVR provides 12 free EV charging stalls (Level Two) at its parking facilities and one DC fast-charging stall.
