Each year, YVR recognizes tenants that demonstrate an outstanding commitment, innovation and enthusiasm towards improving the environment on Sea Island.
Since 2011, businesses on Sea Island have been recognized with a Clear Skies Award for actions ranging from reducing gas emissions and potable water consumption to improving ecosystem health, waste diversion and energy efficiency.
Last month, YVR announced MTU Maintenance and World Duty Free as recipients of Clear Skies awards for 2018.
In the airside/groundside category, MTU was recognized for its expanded recycling program, installation of energy-efficient LED lighting, participation in Climate Smart training and use of water-efficient rinse heads for aircraft cleaning.
Honourable mentions were Aero Mag 2010 YVR Inc., Air Canada, Gate Gourmet and Swissport Canada.
World Duty Free received the Clear Skies Award in the in-terminal category for its improved paper and single-use item recycling, use of LED lights and their active employee green committee who participate annually.
Honourable mentions were Glidepath Systems Ltd. and SSP Canada.
The Climate Smart training program is a partnership between YVR and Climate Smart to work collaboratively with airport partners and businesses to help reduce their energy, waste and water footprints through information sharing, small group training sessions, one-on-one advising and customized reporting and analysis.
