Virgin Atlantic has revealed its new uniforms, following a collaboration with legendary British designer Vivienne Westwood to update the airline’s iconic red uniforms, with an emphasis on originality and sustainability.
The new uniforms will be worn by 180 specially selected staff—including pilots, ground staff and cabin crews—as the airline trials the uniform, checking for comfort and practicality before final tweaks are made.
“My clothes have always got a very strong dynamic rapport with the body,” said Westwood. “They are very body conscious, they help you to look glamorous, more hourglass, more woman. I design things to help people to hopefully express their personality. I am always trying to find fabrics that are more friendly to the environment—working with Virgin Atlantic they managed to research into this and find more eco fabrics.”
Following a consultation process the uniforms will be fully rolled out in 2014.
